From brickwork repairs to structural preparation — we handle the building work that supports your plastering and rendering project. One team, one point of contact, and no waiting for separate contractors.
Fully insured · 25+ years experience · Same-day quotes available
Plastering and rendering projects often require supporting building work. Walls need repairing before they can be plastered. Brickwork needs repointing before rendering. Lintels need replacing before the wall above them can be finished. Rather than waiting for separate contractors, we handle these supporting trades in-house — keeping your project moving without delays.
Our general building services include brickwork repairs, blockwork construction, crack stitching, lintel replacement, wall tie replacement, chimney breast removal and making good, and structural preparation for plastering and rendering projects. We don't take on full house builds or major structural work — we focus on the building work that directly supports our core plastering and rendering services.
This integrated approach means one team, one quote, one schedule. You don't need to coordinate multiple contractors, and there are no gaps between trades. When we quote a rendering project that needs brickwork repairs, we include everything — you see the full cost upfront.
We serve homeowners, landlords, and property managers across London and the Home Counties. Whether it's repointing a Victorian wall before rendering, building a stud wall partition, or repairing structural cracks before re-plastering, we deliver reliable building work that creates the right substrate for a lasting finish.
The most expensive mistake in plastering and rendering is applying finishes over inadequate substrates. Render applied over cracked masonry will crack. Plaster applied over damp walls will blow. Skim coats over unstable plasterboard will crack at every joint. The finish is only as good as what's behind it — and that's where general building work comes in.
Many plasterers ignore substrate problems because fixing them is outside their skill set. They plaster over the crack, render over the damp, and skim over the movement — knowing that the finish will fail, but that the failure won't show for months. By then, they're long gone. We take the opposite approach: we identify and fix substrate problems before any finish is applied.
Hiring separate contractors for building work and plastering creates coordination problems. The builder finishes and leaves. The plasterer arrives and finds the surface isn't ready — wrong levels, rough finishes, or unrepaired damage. Another delay while the builder returns (if they return). This back-and-forth wastes time and money.
DIY building repairs are equally problematic. Incorrectly mixed mortar, improperly installed lintels, and amateur crack repairs create substrates that look fixed but aren't structurally sound. When plaster or render is applied over these repairs, the underlying failure continues — and takes the new finish with it.
We survey the entire scope — both the building work and the plastering or rendering finish. We identify every repair, preparation, and structural issue that needs addressing before finishes are applied. One comprehensive quote covers everything.
Cracks are stitched, damaged brickwork is rebuilt, lintels are replaced, and mortar joints are repointed. Every repair is given adequate curing time before the next phase begins.
Walls are cleaned, levelled, and treated as required. Bonding agents, mesh, or mechanical fixings are applied where necessary. The substrate is inspected and approved before any finish is applied.
With a sound substrate prepared, we apply the specified finish — plaster, render, dry lining, or decorative plasterwork. The result is a finish that lasts because the foundation is right.
The complete project — building work and finishes — is inspected and signed off. You receive one written guarantee covering everything we've done.

Supporting building works on a new-build project. From blockwork to structural preparation, we deliver the groundwork that ensures a flawless plastering finish.
We repair damaged brickwork including spalled bricks, cracked masonry, and deteriorated mortar joints. Repointing involves raking out old mortar to a minimum depth of 15mm and repointing with mortar matched to the original in colour, strength, and profile. On listed buildings and period properties, we use lime mortar — never cement mortar, which is too hard and causes brick damage. Repointing is essential preparation before external rendering.
Structural cracks in masonry are repaired using helical bar stitching — stainless steel bars bonded into slots cut in the mortar bed joints. This reconnects the masonry across the crack and prevents further movement. We install crack stitching systems from Helifix and similar manufacturers, following structural engineer specifications where required. Crack stitching must be done before rendering — otherwise the render will crack in the same location.
Failed lintels above windows and doors cause cracking in the masonry above. We remove and replace failed timber, concrete, or steel lintels with appropriate replacements — typically Catnic or IG lintels for cavity walls, or concrete padstones for solid walls. Temporary structural support (acrow props) is installed during the replacement. This is a critical repair that must be completed before rendering or plastering the surrounding area.
Removing a chimney breast creates additional floor space but requires careful structural support for the chimney above. We install steel beams or gallows brackets to support the remaining chimney stack, then make good the walls, ceiling, and floor where the breast was removed. The finished surface is plastered flush with the surrounding walls — ready for decoration.
We build lightweight block partitions and masonry walls where required — for example, to create utility rooms, en-suites, or storage areas. Blocks are laid to line and level, with movement joints at appropriate intervals. The finished blockwork is then plastered by our team — ensuring the whole project is handled by one contractor.
